New England Patriots and United Way Team Up for Hometown Huddle

BOSTON – Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots and cheerleaders took to the field today at Gillette Stadium's practice bubble to promote physical activity amongst youth as part of United Way of Massachusetts Bay’s (UWMB) annual Hometown Huddle event. Over 100 eighth graders from Atlantic Middle School in Quincy had the unique opportunity to participate in a skills clinic conducted by players and cheerleaders.  read more »

United Way’s Engaging Families Initiative Stacks the Deck for Family Time

United Way of Mass. Bay grants 10K for summer jobs for Boston youth

BOSTON – In an effort to mitigate the City of Boston’s recent financial commitment to extend its summer jobs program from August 20 to September 6, United Way of Massachusetts Bay (UWMB) is today granting $10,000 to the City of Boston to help extend its summer jobs program for youth. Milton J. Little, Jr., president and chief executive officer of UWMB, announced the $10,000 grant to Boston business leaders at a breakfast hosted this morning by Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino at the Parkman House to welcome Milton J. Little, Jr. as the new leader of UWMB.  read more »

Local Sports Heroes Join United Way to Help Boston Kids Learn the Importance of Fitness and Nutrition

BOSTON -- United Way of Massachusetts Bay (UWMB) today hosted 200 Boston children for an Athletes Forum, a program featuring local athletes working directly with children from diverse neighborhoods to help them better understand the importance of staying fit and eating healthy. The Athletes Forum is part of a $1.6 million campaign launched by UWMB in February 2004 to promote nutrition and physical fitness resources for Boston-area children.  read more »

'Summer in the City' tour brings United Way donors, volunteers to the agencies they help support

Donors, volunteers and United Way staff attended Community Engagement’s Summer in the City Tour on Tuesday, July 13. The event began at noon at UWMB’s office with lunch and an introduction to UWMB's Increasing Youth Opportunities initiative by Peg Sprague, vice president, community impact. After lunch and brief remarks, guests embarked on a private bus hired to escort the group to the various United Way affiliate-agencies featured on the tour.  read more »

United Way, Life Sciences industry launch after-school effort

BOSTON -- The Life Sciences industry today joined with United Way of Massachusetts Bay to launch a new effort to develop and expand math, science and technology curriculum in after-school programs. United Way is partnering with the Life Sciences industry to foster a lifelong curiosity in the sciences and to prepare young people for rewarding careers in math, science and technology-based industries. Latino youth making strides in academics and technology

BOSTON -- Several trends have emerged within the Latino student community that demand additional support for youth.
