Volunteer through MSTi
ONE TIME OPPORTUNITY: Be a Guest Speaker at an MSTi after-school site. During this one-time visit, an employee or group of employees may talk about what drew them to science and/or technology, their career path, and what they currently do at BD Biosciences. Guest speakers are encouraged to stay at the program for the duration of the “science club” hour to assist with an experiment or be ‘taught’ by the kids.
VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITY: Become a "Scientist on Call" -- a question-answering guru for kids via e-mail. Questions raised during science club lessons will be collected and sent by an MSTi after-school staff member to employees. Employees will email answers back to the staff member who will then share the answers with the kids. A minimum of one face-to-face meeting with the after-school group is required in order to allow the kids to get to know the face behind the email.
ONGOING TEAM OPPORTUNITY: Sign up with a group to becoming “Rotating Teachers.” A group of 3 or more employees can commit to cover the MSTi after-school class time each week on a rotating basis. Each person will volunteer at the site 2-3 times per semester (half year or full year commitment are both welcome). This rotating opportunity provides a consistent corporate presence throughout the semester and allows MSTi students to get to know scientists from BD Biosciences!
ONGOING INDIVIDUAL OPPORTUNITY: Act as Co-Teacher once a week for the duration of the semester, alongside an MSTi after-school staff member. This opportunity gives employees an in-depth experience with the MSTi curriculum and allows for adult-youth relationship building over the course of the semester.
